Robert L. Karlinsey, PhD is the president, principal investigator, and lead formulator of Custom Dental Formulations, LLC (CDF). He earned a BS in Physics (University of Scranton) and PhD in Chemical Physics (Indiana University), with postdoctoral work in physical chemistry (Indiana University). As a visiting assistant research professor at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, his research caught the attention of Dr. George Stookey, ultimately leading to a mentorship, and an opportunity to transition from academia via the formation of Indiana Nanotech, LLC (now known as CDF). Soon after, products were launched and today his innovations continue to help produce significant global sales. As principal investigator, his research has received significant funding through Federal (National Institutes of Health) and State (Indiana and Texas) grants, and he continues to earn industry sponsorship via contracts and consultations.
For insight into various aspects of oral care, including formulation forensics, how foods and ingredients interact with the teeth, regulatory and claim insights, and what brands get right and, importantly, wrong, Dr. Karlinsey also hosts a podcast called Dental Formulator's Playbook and is available on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, etc.
